Alice in Wonderland: A Lesson in Honesty
For the 2015/2016 season the SROpera commissioned an original children’s opera based on Lewis Carroll’s story and set to music by W.A. Mozart, with a libretto by Sean Spyres and Terry Spyres, and original music by Andrew Jackson.
The world, and the classroom, can be a scary place for a child. Sometimes it is easier to tell a small lie, or to just be quiet, when a problem presents itself. Through the use of iconic characters, costumes, images, and dramatic music, this original work provides a dynamic platform to discuss one of the most important moral and ethical characteristics of the developing young mind: honesty. Making mistakes is a part of life, but it takes a quick trip to the imaginary world of Wonderland for Alice to realize that sometimes it is not just her that is affected by her actions or inactions.
